Table Topics Master's Tips
-
Although it is common practice in Lodo Toastmasters to have topics written
on paper and to ask for volunteers, this is not necessarily prescriptive. Feel
free to try something new or different.
-
Table Topics should, at least vaguely, follow the theme of the meeting.
-
If you decide to select people to answer topics rather than request volunteers, or
if no volunteers are forthcoming and it is necessary to recruit participants, try to
select people who would be willing to participate and who have little or no other
commitments for the evening.
-
Notify the audience and remind the timer of the timing requirements. Each topic is a 1 to 2
minute speech. Timing lights should be activated as follows:
- 1 minute - Green light
- 1 1/2 minutes - Yellow light
- 2 minutes - Red light
-
Ensure that there is enough "meat" on the topic for even the least experienced speaker
to speak on for the required time.
-
If some of your topics seem too limited or vague, present it to a more experienced speaker
as such a person will probably be able to manipulate the topic sufficiently to speak with
confidence.
